Description
Brother Lawrence was a 17th century French Carmelite monk. He was not a Puritan. He was not Reformed. He was not Protestant. And yet what he discovered in a monastery kitchen is so consonant with the best of the Puritan devotional tradition that we could not leave it out.
A word of disclosure: Puritan Publishing does not endorse every aspect of Brother Lawrence’s theology or his Catholic tradition. What we do endorse, without reservation, is what he found. He found God in the kitchen. In the washing up. In the carrying of heavy loads. He found that unbroken communion with God is available to anyone willing to turn their attention toward Him, in any moment, in any circumstance.
This edition preserves Brother Lawrence’s own language, carefully corrected and prepared for reading, with subheadings, chapter summaries, and study questions.
If you have ever felt too ordinary or too broken for a meaningful spiritual life, Brother Lawrence has news for you. God is already in the room.
