John Bunyan
John Bunyan (1628–1688) was an English preacher and writer, best known as the author of The Pilgrim’s Progress, one of the most widely read works of Christian literature in history. Born in Bedfordshire, England, Bunyan had little formal education and worked as a tinker before his conversion and calling to ministry. His refusal to conform to the Church of England led to twelve years of imprisonment, during which he wrote much of his most enduring work. Bunyan’s writing is marked by vivid allegory, plain language, and deep pastoral insight drawn from his own spiritual struggles. Alongside The Pilgrim’s Progress, he authored Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners and The Holy War, among many other sermons and treatises that remain foundational to Reformed and Puritan devotional reading.
