This book is Bunyan’s exposition of grace for the worst cases; not the respectable sinner, but the one who feels too far gone, too stained, too late for mercy. Bunyan answers with the gospel in full force: Christ came for sinners, the vilest first.

Few writers understood human sin or divine grace as Bunyan did, having wrestled with despair before he ever wrote a word of comfort to others.

This edition preserves Bunyan’s own language, carefully corrected and prepared for reading, with subheadings, chapter summaries, and study questions.
