Welcome to Puritan Publishing

Our mission is to bring the works of the Puritans to the everyday reader. We strive to create high quality paperbacks, ebooks, and audiobooks for each work. We hope that these works are a blessing to you and your family.

Our Story ⏤

The Puritans wrote for people who were in dungeons. Grief. Doubt. Depression. Dying. Every season of the soul. Their words still meet us there — and show us the way out.

Richard Sibbes wrote The Bruised Reed for souls so damaged they could barely lift their heads. Thomas Watson wrote for people in grief, in doubt, in the long silence of unanswered prayer. John Bunyan wrote Pilgrim’s Progress from a Bedford jail cell.

They had answers that still work. The problem is that most people today can’t read them.

Puritan Publishing exists to change that — for every kind of reader, in every season of life.

“Seasons change. Truth doesn’t. Whatever season you find yourself in — the Puritans have been there before you.”

THREE READERS. THREE OFFERINGS.

We recognize that readers come to these books differently, and we honor each approach.

For the purist — For each title we publish, we provide a free link to the original public domain text, exactly as written, on our Resources page. No charge. No alteration. Just the source.

For the traditionalist — Our Original Seasons series preserves every word of the original language while making the text navigable: spelling corrected, punctuation clarified, long sentences divided, subheadings inserted, chapter summaries added, and eight study questions concluding each chapter. Available in print and ebook. Prepared by human editors. The language is the author’s own.

For the modern reader — Our New Seasons series offers fully modernized editions for today’s readers and listeners. The language is updated. The theology is untouched. Available in print, and many in audio.

HOW PURITAN PUBLISHING BEGAN

I am Steve Larsen — audiobook narrator, lifelong reader of old books, and the unlikely founder of a publishing house.

A few years ago I was recording works by John Bunyan. The material was extraordinary — powerful, necessary, life-changing. I began sharing printed chapters with friends. One after another, they told me the same thing: “I don’t understand it.” “It’s too hard.” “I’ll wait for your audiobook.”

Those responses haunted me. The books that had shaped my faith were inaccessible to the people I loved most. Something had to be done.

But I was one person. I could modernize perhaps twenty titles in a lifetime. The scale of what needed doing was enormous. That conviction led me to Ryan Kaufman — a brilliant language scholar, a seminary graduate, a committed Christian, and, like me, deeply skeptical of Artificial Intelligence. I told him what I was trying to build. By God’s grace, he said yes.

And then, by God’s grace, Brad Sundt came into our lives. We had the idea. We had the product. Brad brought the vision for how to get it into the world. His partnership has been a gift we didn’t see coming.
